About RealPlate

Good food, realistic recipes, easier shopping.

A weekly dinner planning tool for good food, realistic recipes and easier weekly shopping.

Why RealPlate exists

RealPlate started with a simple frustration: the same few dinners on repeat, and no real sense of what the week's shop would cost until the checkout.

The food here comes from a British-Italian family kitchen – practical British weeknight dinners with a strong Italian influence. The minestrone is on the site because it's often eaten in Italy after a heavy night, not because a meal planner should have a soup on it. The chickpea curry is there because a curry on a Tuesday is a normal British dinner, and the smash burgers because some Fridays are like that too.

Every recipe has been cooked and tested at home before it goes live. Every ingredient is priced by hand against Tesco. Recipes serve four because that's a typical family dinner.

The site is still being built, with new recipes added as they're ready. to follow along.

A RealPlate dinner

How that shapes the food

Realistic meals

Proper dinners with clear steps and everyday ingredients.

Everyday ingredients

No hunting down obscure items. If it isn't in a normal supermarket, it isn't in a recipe.

Complete dinners

Not just a main. Protein, carbs and veg, planned as a week so ingredients carry over instead of going off.

Guide prices

Every price checked by hand against Tesco, so you know roughly what the shop will cost before you go.
